The Parade

For nearly half a century, I have either walked, pedalled, marched, clowned in or watched the Fourth of July Parade in my tiny hometown of Rockledge, Pennsylvania. In deference to the Millennium, I decided in the summer of 2000 to photograph this magical event of my childhood (that was also a troubling experience every year). What I saw as a young girl in an America of the 1950's and what I see today is different, but might not be as fundamentally different as, at first, I thought.
